The Crater Region Workforce Ready Diploma Seal & Employment Initiative was established through a collaborative partnership among Career and Technical Education (CTE) leaders across the Crater Region to better connect students with meaningful postsecondary employment opportunities. Participating school divisions include Amelia, Colonial Heights, Dinwiddie, Greensville, Hopewell, Petersburg, Prince George, Surry, and Sussex.

Originally launched in 2020, the initiative was designed alongside regional industry partners to help prepare graduating seniors for success in the workforce through career readiness experiences, employability skill development, and direct connections with local employers. The regional workforce pathway includes the Reverse Career Fair, Interview Day experiences, employer site visits, and the culminating CTE Signing Day event.

The signing day event serves as a culminating experience within Prince George High School’s Career & Technical Education program, highlighting the division’s commitment to preparing students for success through hands-on learning, career exploration, and authentic workforce experiences. Throughout the school year, students are exposed to post-graduation opportunities through Prince George High School’s annual Career Fair and ongoing engagement with local and regional business partners.

In preparation for the regional employment initiative events, students participated in resume development and interview preparation workshops while strengthening professional communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and other essential employability skills. Students also progressed through authentic hiring experiences that included employer site visits, performance-based interviews, and direct interaction with business and industry partners throughout the region.

In March, more than 20 Prince George High School students participated in the annual Reverse Career Fair hosted at Brightpoint Community College, where students showcased their skills, certifications, experiences, and career goals directly to employers seeking emerging talent from across the region. The event led to nearly 50 interviews and employer site visits for Prince George students through the regional Interview Day process, ultimately culminating in the Tuesday, May 5, 2026, Crater Region CTE Signing Day event, where selected students formally committed to employment opportunities with regional business partners following graduation.
