Fall sports are fast approaching. To be eligible for participation in sports, the following criteria must be met:
- A current VHSL physical uploaded after May 1st, 2025.
- Physicals must be uploaded by July 31, 2025.
- Students must pass the equivalent of 5 courses from the spring semester.
- Students must be enrolled in the equivalent of 5 courses for the fall semester.
- 8th graders can try out for JV sports teams.
- 6th and 7th graders can only participate on middle school sports teams.

Here are the dates and locations for tryouts for each sport. (Student-Athletes are expected to attend tryouts in their entirety. Any exceptions must be approved by the head coach).
JV and Varsity Girls Volleyball (8th through 12th graders): Tryouts will occur in the PGHS Gym on August 4th and 5th from 3:00-6:00 p.m.
JV and Varsity Boys Volleyball (8th through 12th graders): Boys Volleyball Tryouts for JV and Varsity will occur on August 4th and 4th in the PGHS Gym from 5:45 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Cross Country(8th through 12th graders): Tryouts will occur on August 4th and 5th from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the PGHS Track.
JV and Varsity Field Hockey (8th through 12th graders): Field Hockey Tryouts will occur on August 4th and 5th at the PGHS Stadium from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and August 6th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Golf (8th through 12th graders): Golf tryouts will be August 4-6 from 3:30-6 pm at Ft. Gregg-Adams Cardinal Golf Course (11810 A Ave, Fort Gregg-Adams, VA 23801) with practices to start on the 7th and run Monday through Thursday until September 25th.
JV and Varsity Sideline Cheer (8th through 12th graders): Sideline Cheer will begin on July 31st from 8:00-11:00 a.m.
Varsity Competition Cheer (9th through 12th graders): Competition Cheer Tryouts will begin on August 1st at NB Clements Gym from 4:30pm-7pm.
JV and Varsity Football(8th through 12th graders): Varsity Football Tryouts will occur On August 4th and 5th from 5:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. at the PGHS Stadium. JV Football Tryouts will occur on August 4th and 5th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Girls Middle School Soccer (6th through 8th graders):
Tryouts will occur on August 25th and 26th from 3-4:45 p.m. at JEJ Moore. Please bring water, shin guards, and soccer cleats.
Boys Middle School Soccer (6th through 8th graders):
Tryouts will occur August 25th - 27th from 3-4:30 p.m.at JEJ Moore. Please bring water, shin guards, and soccer cleats.
Girls Middle School Basketball (6th through 8th graders):
Tryouts will occur August 18th - 20th at J.E.J Moore from 3-5 p.m. You must attend all three days of tryouts (If there is an issue of attendance please contact Coach Mae ([email protected]). Please bring water, basketball shoes, and basketball attire.
Conditioning sessions will be held August 4th-8th and 11th-15th at JEJ Moore from 3-5 p.m.
This is highly recommended but not required to try out or make the team.
All practices will resume daily following tryouts. Coaches will share sport specific calendars to communicate schedules.

- Be a positive role model.
- Realize that you represent the school and community and, therefore, have an obligation to be a true sportsman, encouraging through positive behavior the practice of good sportsmanship by others.
- Be a “team fan” and a “my kid fan.”
- Recognize that good sportsmanship is more important than victory by approving and applauding good team play, individual skill, and outstanding examples of sportsmanship and fair play exhibited by either team.
- Recognize that since the primary purpose of interscholastic athletics is to promote the physical, mental, moral, social, and emotional well-being of the players, victory or defeat are of secondary importance.
- Treat visiting teams and officials as guests, extending to them every courtesy.
- Be modest in victory and gracious in defeat.
- Respect the judgment and integrity of officials, realizing that their decisions are based upon game conditions.
- Respect the coaches and administration.
- Remember that a ticket to a school athletic event is revocable without refund.
